Making Inferences

What is an inference? An inference is something you figure out by using evidence/clues to get the answer. I learnt that books or texts aren’t only the things that have inferences, there’s also inference in life. For example, your friends planned a birthday party for you and whenever you asked them about it, they denied it. You knew you were right when they started blowing balloons and wouldn’t let you go into a certain room. Therefore, inferences can be said anywhere and you don’t even realize it.

Matariki Festival 2023

In my opinion, I really enjoyed the Matariki Festival, we got to show off to parents what we had been working off for the past term. I enjoyed telling others what our activities were about and seeing the challenging look on their faces and also seeing the little kids enjoying themselves competing in our painting activity. There wasn’t really anything that could of went better cause everything was great.

What I thought could have gone better was if the people across us could have stopped being competitive towards us and saying things to distract us, not knowing that we worked hard on our activity. I did try and ignore because I know it was a bit of banter, but other than that the day was good and I enjoyed everything else.

Exploration – Master Model

This cybersmart task was a great challenge for those who want to improve on their use of the explore tool. It teaches us how to use the search tool so that we can properly search and use the websites, information, and images that we are looking for on the internet. This task was explained in Te Reo Maori because it was Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori. I didn’t understand the Maori words so I used google to translate into English.

Tongan Language Week

On week 8, we all celebrated Tongan Language Week by learning a tau’olunga performed by some Team Tui students and also Team Kea. On Friday, Glen Taylor School gathered in the hall to have a runway show, performances and have a feast. During the runway show, children dressed up in different types of costumes and the MC described the details of the costumes. Everyone that committed to be apart of the Tongan group, danced proudly and showed pride.

Hyperbole Activities

Last week, for writing TeamTui learnt different meanings of figurative language. In this activity, we had to read the hyperbolic statements on the left and write what we thought it meant on the right. While working, some statements were easy to explain because I realized that I’ve said some before. In the end I had to come up with 5 hyperbolic statements and ask some of my classmates if they knew what it meant.

Finding Perimeter

Today in maths, Team Tui drew a random shape to measure its length – distance. We had to get into a group of 3 to work together to pick and create a shape. It didn’t have to be an ordinary shape just as long as we could measure it. We used string to measure the curvy lines and used rulers to measure the straight lines. In total the perimeter around the shape was 48.8 cm.

Google Meets

For our cybersmart task we are learning to use Google Meet effectively and in a cybersmart way. We need to make smart decisions whenever we are in a google meet by showing ourselves clearly in the frame and finding a quiet space to sit. We are learning about how to do the right thing in a google meet by listening to the speaker, raising our hand and always attending the google meets.
